Airport Yarn

On my way out here to Utah, I needed something to keep me busy in the airport, so I got some gray wool roving and got a cheap spindle (in case TSA decided it was a weapon for some reason and took it) and was spinning yarn in the airport. I was lowkey (highkey) hoping someone would ask me what the hell I was doing so I could infodump on them about spinning, but alas, no takers. I managed to spin a little less than half the roving which is a lot more than I was expecting! In my first week here, I plied it and the yarn store downtown wound it into a ball for me. It had juuuust enough for me to win yarn chicken using the yarn to border the shawl I made.

I love the bounce and drape of this yarn; my first balls of yarn I spun ended up a little stiff? I think I felted them some when I washed them and dyed them, but this one I just lightly soaked in water and dish soap then rinsed. There’s a lot of variation in the thickness, but definitely less so than my first attempts. I’m enjoying the learning curve of spinning quite a lot and I am excited about how much more there is to know.

My program is considering hosting a talent show and I am absolutely going to sign up and demonstrate spinning. That being said, I should probably go practice…. :)
